August 2016 Upper Glendale Falls

Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network’s (GREEN) Waterfall of the Month for August 2016 is Upper Glendale Falls.

Upper Glendale Falls is the uppermost waterfall of three small waterfalls located on Montgomery Creek in the east end of Hamilton, between the Bruce Trail and the now closed section of Mount Albion Road. It is considered a Terraced Classic type waterfall with a height of 10 feet (3m) and a width of 10 feet (3m). It often has low flow or is dry, thus plan your visit after a rainfall or during the winter snow melt.

To reach Upper Glendale Falls exit the LINC/Red Hill Valley Parkway at Mud St. then turn left at Winterbury which then becomes Paramount. Continue on Paramount, turn left onto Kingsview Dr. and follow it to the bend. At the bend take the trail for about 100m to the Bruce Trail which loops around a massive storm sewer structure. Montgomery Creek has been enclosed on top of the escarpment and this is the beginning of the natural Montgomery Creek ravine and the location of Upper Glendale Falls.
