March 2017- Delta Falls

Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network’s (GREEN) Waterfall of the Month for March 2017 is Delta Falls, an Art Installation.

As used plastic water bottles are an environmental concern and that Hamilton is known as The City of Waterfalls due to its location along the Niagara Escarpment, a group at http://delightfest.ca/ created an art installation in the shape of a cascading waterfall, as part of Winterfest in Hamilton, to highlight this environmental concern.

The art installation used scaffolding 6m in height and 6m at its base. Then 1,000 recycled (used) plastic water bottles were linked together in chains with blue LED lights inside, and placed on the scaffolding to create a cascading waterfall, as can be seen in the accompanying picture.

This art installation was located in Delta Park, just east of the Delta in east Hamilton where King St. and Main St. cross each other on a diagonal.

Sadly Delta Falls, an Art Installation, was on display for only three nights, Feb. 18, 19 and 20, 2017, and no longer exists, thus be aware of its message and enjoy the photo.
