May 2015 Swayze Falls

Giant’s Rib Escarpment Education Network’s Waterfall of the Month for May 2015 is Swayze Falls.

Swayze Falls is located on a tributary of Twelve Mile Creek in Short Hills Provincial Park in Pelham section of St. Catharines, in the Region of Niagara. It is considered a Terraced Ribbon type waterfall with a height of approximately 50 feet (15m) and a crest width of 20 feet (6m). It often is dry, thus plan your visit after a rainfall or during the winter snow melt. Its coordinates are N 43° 5.544′ W 79° 18.176′

To visit Swayze Falls, take Hwy 406 exit off the QEW, then exit at St. David’s Rd. and go right. In a short distance turn left onto Merrittville Highway, then right onto DeCew Rd Turn left on Pelham Rd. and proceed 2.3 km (1.8 miles) until a left on Effington Rd. After 3 km. turn left on Roland St and park in the lot at the end. Then follow the Paleozoic Trail and a platform is provided to allow the easiest and best views of the waterfall.
