A warm ‘Hello’ and ‘Farewell’ for September.

On behalf of the current and past Board members, we want to thank you immensely for your on-going support of our programs and overall vision to protect the Niagara Escarpment. However, due to decreased funding available for our group, changes with community partners with whom we originally created the Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre and a decline in our volunteer base, we have decided to ‘close our doors’ at the Giant’s Rib Discovery Centre and will no longer be staffing outdoor programs or the Dundas Trail Centre facility.

Our Lecture Series and monthly newsletter will also be discontinued. Our remaining funds and resources will be focused on putting everything we can online for educational purposes and to leave a virtual “Discovery Centre”.

Ken Hall and his colleagues started this group over 15 years ago and the need is as great today as it was then to understand, preserve and protect the UNESCO World Biosphere that is our Niagara Escarpment. We have been fortunate to have a lot of great ‘Escarpment-champions’ dedicate their time & energy such as Past President Chris Hamilton and Joe Hollick, our monthly Waterfall Feature contributor. We truly appreciate all that has been done by our Board and volunteers over the years!

I hope that you will continue to support the great work being done by other Escarpment groups such as Cootes to Escarpment, Hamilton Naturalists’ Club, Bruce Trail, RBG, NEC and other local Conservation Authorities & organizations. They as well, need your human & financial involvement in order to survive and thrive.

Thank you again for all of your support and I leave you with some some wise words:

“I can’t imagine anything more important than air, water, soil, energy and biodiversity. These are the things that keep us alive.” – David Suzuki

Sincerely,
Jennifer McPherson
